Night Diving

We found that the fish are less active at night, which allow us to get closer to the fish; therefore, we catch more of them.  Sometimes we go during the day, but it’s a little bit more challenging because the fish do not want us to get close to them.

Night Dive Plan

We like to spearfish at night at the Marine Corps Base in Kaneohe Bay. Night spearfishing at the base require us to turn in a night dive plan. The dive plan must be turned in at the Military Police (MP) station or at the Chief Watch Officer (CWO) of the Day located at the headquarters building.

 

Buoy, flag, and strobe light

A buoy and a dive flag are required by the State of Hawaii every time a person dives, day or night. At night, although not required, we use a strobe light. This will give us an idea where everyone is located. The strobe light is especially helpful during times of limited visibility.
