About
My name is Celestino Ranon. I was in the U.S. Army stationed in Fort Shafter, Hawaii. One of the many advantages of being stationed in Hawaii is the numerous water activities. One water activity I enjoy the most is spearfishing. Every Friday night, I go spearfishing with my friends, Jerome, Rithner, and Glen. We go to the Marine Corps Base in Kaneohe Bay to do our spearfishing. We picked this location for its abundance in sea life and safety. None of us own a boat, so we are shore and coral divers. We do not dive more than 30 feet deep.
We love to eat fish. We cook the fish within minutes after we catch them. This is as fresh as we are going to get. One of our favorite fish to eat is the Kala (Unicorn fish) because it is easy and very simple to prepare. All we have to do with the Kala is make sure it’s clean on the outside. You don’t even have to take the insides out. You just wrap the Kala in aluminum foil and put it straight on the grill. You know when it’s done because the tail falls off. For dipping sauce, we mix some vinegar, soy sauce, Tabasco sauce, onions, garlic, salt, and pepper. You eat it with steamed rice; it’s delicious. Another favorite of ours is the goatfish. They taste best when they’re fried. It’s also very simple and easy to prepare. We remove the scales and the intestines, put salt or garlic salt, fry, and enjoy.
